HAMDEN, CT – The Manhattan Jaspers baseball team (8-16, 3-7 MAAC) fell to the Bobcats of Quinnipiac University (13-10-1, 7-3 MAAC) by a score of 16-5 on Friday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After the Bobcats jumped out to a sizable lead to open the home side of the contest, Manhattan responded with a Trevor Hansen double to center. While attempting to steal third, the Bobcats catcher threw the ball awry and allowed Hansen to score the Jaspers' first run of the game.
- In the fourth inning, trailing double-digits, the Green and White cut Quinnipiac's deficit to as little as seven with a three-run blast from Dylan Mayer to bring Colin Basehore and Hunter Sute home.
- Down the stretch of the ballgame, Aidan Taclas laced a base hit to center and advanced to second on a missed throw. After Aidan Katzman advanced to third, he would score the fifth run for Manhattan.
STATS AND NOTES
- Aidan Taclas recorded a four-for-five afternoon and swiped his sixth base in eight tries this season.
- For Taclas, he ties Jeremy Sosa (v. Fairfield on 3/15), Ryan Lordier (v. Alcorn State on 2/18), and Trevor Hansen (v. Lafayette on 3/11) for the most hits by a Jasper in an individual game this season.
- Dylan Mayer hammered his second home run of the season, worked a walk, and scored a run in the effort. Mayer drove home three against the Bobcats.
- Carter Cowburn logged a team-high four strikeouts in 2.1 innings pitched and tossed 35 total pitches.
