Baseball Falls to Columbia in Midweek Battle

NEW YORK, NY – The Manhattan Jaspers baseball team (8-15, 3-6 MAAC) fell to the Lions of Columbia University (8-11, 3-0 Ivy League) by a score of 19-4 inside Robertson Field at Satow Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• After falling behind to the Lions, the Jaspers got on the board in the top of the fourth inning, with Ryan Ash working a walk with the bases loaded. This was followed by a balk, which allowed Trevor Hansen to score from third to bring the game within four.
• Following a pitching change for the Lions, the Jaspers took advantage, with Aidan Taclas opening the fifth inning with a base knock into right field. On the ensuing at-bat, Jeremy Sosa singled through the right side, which allowed Taclas to score its third run.
• During the next at-bat, Ryan Lordier doubled to left field before Hunter Sute grounded out to the Lions' second baseman to cut Manhattan's deficit in half.

STATS AND NOTES

• Ryan Lordier went three-for-four with a two-bagger on the afternoon. The second baseman worked a walk while batting in the three-hole.
• Jeremy Sosa recorded a one-for-five afternoon and crossed the plate once in the effort.
• In a pinch-hitting role, Jake Hatch logged one base hit.
