FAIRFIELD, CT – The Manhattan Jaspers baseball team (7-14, 2-6 MAAC) fell to the Pioneers of Sacred Heart University (11-9, 6-2 MAAC) by a score of 16-3 inside Veterans Park on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Amid a widened deficit, the Jaspers broke through with an Andreaus Lewis double down the left-field line to bring home Ryan Lordier, who reached base due to a Pioneer error by its shortstop.
- In the visiting half of the ninth inning, Nico Mattera pinch-hit for Jeremy Sosa, and proved to be the right choice, with Mattera lacing a single to center to bring home Aidan Katzman and Ryan Ash to tack on the teams' second and third runs.
STATS AND NOTES
- Relief pitcher Carter Cowburn logged two innings of work and punched out three batters in the final two innings, with 36 total pitches tossed.
- Guriyandel Salva added two hits and walked once in three total plate appearances. On the base-path, Salva was caught stealing.
- Freshman Colin Basehore added two hits to the scoresheet and struck out twice in four at-bats.
