POMONA, N.Y. – The Manhattan baseball team suffered a 6-2 defeat at the hands of the Fairfield Stags Friday night at Clover Stadium.
The series will conclude tomorrow on the campus of Fairfield with first pitch slated for 1 p.m.
The Stags offense got the early jump on Jasper starter,
Will Hesslink, tagging him up for four runs in the first inning, which was highlighted by a 3RBI double to right field. Two more runs came across in the sixth inning before he was replaced by
Oliver Pudvar, who didn't allow a hit for his entire 3.1 innings of work while sitting down five on strikes.
The entirety of the Jasper offense came courtesy of
Trevor Santo's bat, who utilized the short porch in right field to smack a pair of solo home runs this evening, both off Fairfield starter Colin McVeigh. Santo's long balls accounted for two of the four hits for the Green and White.
Manhattan did threaten to close the gap in the bottom of the eighth. Santos hit his second long ball of the game which was followed up by
Ryan Eaton drawing a walk. The Stags got a pair of outs before hitting
Frankie Marinelli, awarding the leadoff man first. After a wild pitch, both runners moved into scoring position but the inning ended as the Stags struck
Daniel Perez out.
