NORTH ANDOVER, MASS. – Manhattan dropped their first road game this week to Merrimack, being edged by the Warriors, 12-11.
After a scoreless first quarter, the Jaspers fired up their offense in the last moments of the game, scoring six of their 11 goals in the final minutes of the third and fourth quarters. The Jaspers cut the five-goal Warrior lead down to one by the end of the fourth but ran out of time.
The second quarter saw 11 goals, three by Manhattan (3-4), and the other eight by Merrimack (1-6).
Julianna Iovine opened the scoring for the Jaspers, at 7:28 of the second, with an assist from
Ava Fernandes. The first half closed out with a score of 8-2 Warriors.
Toward the end of the third, the Jaspers' offense came alive, scoring four times, one of them coming in the last minute of play in the third. The Jasper carried the momentum into the fourth, scoring the first goal in the final quarter and then scoring the final three.
Ava and
Julia Fernandes led the offense for the Jaspers, both dropping hat-tricks. Iovine picked up a pair of goals and assists.
Jessica Hise and Ashle Gambardella both saw time in the cage today, denying six and five shots, respectively.
Manhattan visits Mercer on Sunday for its next game. The start time in Macon, Ga, is 1 p.m.
