RIVERDALE, N.Y. – In the first game of the week of their southern swing, the Manhattan women's lacrosse fell to the Mercer Bears in Macon, Ga., 20-6.
Mercer (4-1) came out of the gate hot and kept Manhattan (3-5) from getting anything going in the first quarter. While the Jaspers scored the first goal, the Bears scored the next four in the first. Julianna Iovine scored the first goal for the Jaspers right after a free-position shot.
The Bears would score the following 9 goals to lead 9-1 with 6:57 remaining before halftime.
Jillian Reiner would be the sole goal scorer for the Jaspers in the second quarter, scoring a goal after a ground ball pickup by Reagan Mullins.
The Bears continued to outscore the Jaspers into the third and fourth quarters. The Jaspers had their moment in the fourth, scoring three goals. However, it was too late to make a comeback, with the Bears being able to answer back every goal the Jaspers scored while also outscoring them by one.
Manhattan visits Kennesaw State on Wednesday for its next game. The start time in Kennesaw, Ga, is 12 p.m.
