Smithfield, R.I.—The Manhattan men's lacrosse team dropped a road contest this morning to Bryant, 15-12.
With the defeat, Manhattan falls to 3-2 on the season as they enter MAAC play. Bryant improves to 3-1 on the year.
The Bulldogs scored the first three goals of the game, all within the first five minutes of play. While Manhattan got on the board thanks to a
Christian Lyons goal, Bryant responded with two more of their own, with the first period finishing with Bryant owning a 6-3 lead.
Manhattan was outscored 3-1 in the second quarter, making the halftime score 9-4 in favor of Bryant.
The Jasper offense came out swinging in the third quarter, starting the second half in the same fashion as Bryant, scoring three goals to come within striking distance.
Tadhg O'Riordan accounted for the first one, which
Kyle Gucwa followed up, then
Liam Walshe brought Manhattan within two, 9-7. Bryant responded with four goals of their own.
Gucwa finished with five goals for the Jaspers, while Bryant was led by Jack Lonsinger and Johnny Hackett, who had four apiece. Walshe found the back of the net four times for Manhattan. Five other Jaspers found the score sheet.
Joseph Persico made 11 saves for Manhattan on 26 shots on goal.
Liam McDonough went 11-22 on faceoffs.
MAAC play begins for Manhattan with a trip to Emmitsburg, MD. for a meeting with Mount St. Mary's on Saturday, Mar. 11, at noon.
