WEST HARTFORD, CONN – There was a run on brooms in West Hartford as the Manhattan baseball team completed its first sweep of the season, taking down the Hartford Hawks,17-6, Saturday afternoon.
With the victory, Manhattan improves to 6-12 while Hartford falls to 1-8.
The scoring started early for the Jaspers, with
Trevor Hansen delivering an RBI double in the top of the first inning which was followed up by 2 RBI single by
Jacob Radziewicz for his sixth hit of the series, making the score 3-0 headed into the bottom of the first inning.
The Hawks responded with a pair of runs in the home half of the first, utilizing an RBI double and a sacrifice fly to make the score 3-2 going in the top of the second inning.
The Hawks took the lead in the home half of the second, bringing three runs around to make the score 5-3. They capitalized on an error by Jasper starter
Darien Rorabeck to bring one around than the other crossed the plate by the way of an RBI double off the bat of Devin Kellog.
Hansen tied the ball game up in the third inning with a no-doubt two run blast to right field. The led swung back to Manhattan in the fourth inning on a
Daniel Perez sac-fly for the infielder's 14th RBI of the season.
The ballgame would be tied for the final time by Hartford in the home half of the fourth inning when Kellog drove in another run, making the score 6-6.
Frankie Marinelli swung the lead back to the good guys for good with a two RBI double down the right field line.
Pete Durocher followed that up with an RBI groundout to bring around Marinelli to make the score 9-6.
Manhattan piled on the runs in the top of the ninth, bringing six around which was highlighted by the second grand slam of the season, this time off the bat of Hansen to right field for the freshman's third dinger of the season.
Rorabeck picked up his first win of the season after tossing seven innings and punching out six Hawks.
Trey Packen appeared for one inning and struck out a pair.
Hansen finished with a monster seven RBI this afternoon and his first multi home run game of his young career. Perez drove in three while Radziewicz and Marinelli brought around a pair each.
Manhattan returns to action this coming Wednesday when they head down Broadway for a midweek meeting with the Columbia Lions with first pitch scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
