AUSTIN, Texas – The Manhattan baseball team brought four runs around in the sixth inning of their final game at the University of Texas this week, a game which ended in a 16-6 Longhorn victory.
Manhattan will return to the Empire State with a 3-11 record heading into a four-game week, featuring a midweek meeting with Hofstra and then their home debut with two games against Hartford Friday and Saturday. Sunday's contest will be played at Hartford.
The Longhorns' offense got to Jasper starter
Connor O'Neill early on. The first seven Longhorn hitters reached base safely before O'Neill got out of the inning, allowing six runs, with two being unearned.
In the fifth,
Daniel Perez connected for a double to the right-center gap.
Ryan Eaton followed that up with a right field to put a pair of Jaspers on the corners.
Jacob Radziewicz utilized a sacrifice fly to get Perez home. After a
Zahan Meyer single, Eaton scored from second after an RBI single off the bat of
Alfredo Delgado for the senior's second RBI of the season.
In the following inning,
Pete Durocher took a Longhorn arm deep on the first pitch of the inning for his first long ball of the season. On the next pitch,
Trevor Santos put one down the right-field line for a pair of bases. Santos advanced to third thanks to an errant pitch by the Longhorns.
Trevor Hansen brought him around on a single up the middle on the payoff pitch for his third RBI of the year.
Following a Longhorn pitching change,
Daniel Perez singled to put runners on the corners. Hansen was brought around on fielder's choice on the following play. The day's final run for the Jaspers came from a Meyer RBI single.
