BAKERSFIELD, CALIF –
Jack Lynch blasted a two-run bomb in the seventh inning to lift the Manhattan baseball team to head coach
Dave Miller's first win at Manhattan against Cal State Bakersfield on Sunday.
The Jaspers dropped game two of the doubleheader 4-2.
Manhattan moves to 1-6 on the year while the Roadrunners go to 7-2
GAME ONE
In the second inning,
Pete Durocher took advantage of an error made by the Roadrunner's third baseman and managed to reach first and then advanced to second. He was moved over to third by a groundout on the next batter, which brought Lynch to the plate. His bat got hot early and cranked a triple down to right, scoring Durocher. Lynch then crossed home plate to give the Green and White a 2-0 lead.
Manhattan continued to threaten, with
Frankie Marinelli singling than
Alfredo Delgado walking, but CSUB limited the damage to two runs.
In the fourth,
Zahan Meyer knocked in his second RBI of the year, bringing
Nick Plue home for his first collegiate run scored, making it 3-0 Manhattan.
The 'Runners tied things up with a three-run sixth inning, but Manhattan immediately responded. In the following inning, Meyer was awarded first after being hit by a pitch, setting the table once again for Lynch, who took the Roadrunners deep to right field to regain a 5-4 lead.
Darien Rorabeck turned in a solid start, going five innings, and only allowed four hits while punching out four 'Runners.
Oliver Pudvar earned a rare eight-out save today to secure the win, which was earned by
Garret Garbinski for his first win as a Jasper. Pudvar escaped the bottom of the ninth in a bases loaded two-out scenario to secure the win.
GAME TWO
Game two saw CSU get an early lead in the second inning and use three more runs in the fifth inning to establish a 4 run foothold in the seven-inning game.
Manhattan's bats would come alive in a bid for a come-from-behind win. The hero of game one, Lynch, stepped up once again, this time with a two-RBI single to bring around
Ryan Ash and
Pete Durocher.
Lynch accounted for two of the Jaspers' four hits in the game, with Marinelli and Plue supplying the other two. Durocher swiped a bag for the first time this year.
Manhattan returns to action next weekend with four games, two against UMES and the other two against Lehigh.
