Jaspers Pick Up Road Win Against Fairleigh Dickinson

TEANECK, N.J.. – The Manhattan women's lacrosse team topped Fairleigh Dickinson 16-7 in their first road game of the season.

"We've had a large variety of contributors making us a well-rounded threat. We had some strong defensive stops and began controlling the draw in the game, allowing our offense to capitalize. It was truly a team win on Saturday," said head coach Jenna Dingler when asked about their performance in the first two matches.

Both teams started hot, with Manhattan and FDU scoring four goals each in the first quarter. In the second quarter, the Jaspers shut out the Knights and held them down for the remainder of the game.

Caroline D'Agostino opened the scoring for Manhattan (2-0) this afternoon with two goals within the first six minutes and quickly notched a new career best in goals early on in the game. This was shortly followed by two more goals, the first from Reagan Mullins off an assist from Julianna Iovine, and the second by Jillian Reiner to tie the game as the first quarter drew to a close.

FDU (0-1) opened up strong in their first-ever game. The Knights led Manhattan for the entire first quarter, forcing the Jaspers to answer back and play catch-up after every goal.

The Jaspers' scoring continued at the same intensity going into the second quarter, holding down the Knights to four while picking up three to put them up 7-4.

The third quarter featured a huge Jaspers scoring run, netting five goals before the Knights picked up two of their own in the quarter's last minute. However, there was little hope for a Knights comeback after the Jasper run in the third.

Pacing the scoring for the Jaspers this afternoon were Iovine and Fernandes, both putting up hat-tricks. Following behind them were Mullins, Reiner, and D'Agostino, with two goals apiece.

The Jaspers successfully executed 14 of 15 clears this afternoon while getting 27 of their 33 shots on the net. FDU committed 16 turnovers, 12 of which were directly caused by the Jaspers.

The Jaspers play again Wednesday, Feb. 22, where they will face off against Monmouth at home in Gaelic Park at 3 p.m.
