RIVERDALE, N.Y. – Manhattan women's lacrosse's winning streak came to an end after losing to Monmouth at home, 14-3.
Manhattan (2-1) had a tough time breaking through Monmouth's (2-2) strong defense in the second half, going scoreless and ultimately dropping the match.
The game opened up with the Jaspers trailing the Hawks by one, similar to the beginning of the Fairleigh Dickinson match on Saturday. However, the Jaspers couldn't replicate the same offensive power in this game. For the game's first four goals, each team went back and forth, with the Jaspers playing catch-up.
As the first half of the game continued, the Hawks slowly built their margin until a two-goal burst in the second quarter put them up by three. The Jaspers answered this with a goal, but not without the Hawks firing back two more in the closing minutes of the half.
The two scorers of the game were
Julianna Iovine with two for the Jaspers, both coming in the first half, and
Julia Fernandes with one goal, assisted by
Andrea Liotta.
Mya Brock had five points to lead the Hawks' offense. Ten other Hawks recorded at least a point.
The Jaspers play one more game to close the week on Saturday, Feb. 25, at 11 a.m. against LIU in Brookville, N.Y.
