DELAND, Fla. – The Manhattan baseball team suffered an opening night setback at the hands of the Stetson Hatters Friday night, 18-0.
The Hatters jumped on the Jaspers starter,
Will Hesslink (0-1), touching up the Jasper starter for four runs in the first inning.
The Hatters kept the peddle down for the whole game, growing the lead consistently, including mashing three home runs off Hesslink.
Stetson's Austin Amaral (1-0) earned the win while shutting down the Jasper bats for five innings and striking out nine and yielding one hit.
Game two of the series between the two schools is set to continue tomorrow with first pitch at Melching Field set for 6:30 p.m.
