DELAND, FLA. – Manhattan dropped game two of their weekend series at Stetson Friday night, 9-1, at Melching Field.
Manhattan drops to 0-2 on the year while Stetson goes to 2-0.
Stetson scored the first run of the game courtesy of a leadoff bomb by Andrew Estrella. Manhattan threatened in the bottom half of the first, with
Frankie Marinelli knocking a leadoff single, then stole second but was left stranded in scoring position.
The third inning featured the first Jasper run of the 2023 season, with two outs in the inning,
Pete Durocher smacked a double down the right field line.
Jack Lynch singled to left field which brought Durocher around to score but was caught in the base paths while trying to take second, base ending the inning.
In their half of the third, Stetson brought home former Jasper David Bermudez thanks to a double to regain a 2-1 lead.
The Hatters added one more run in the fifth when Bermudez once again crossed home thanks to an RBI double by Jayden Hylton.
A four-run sixth inning sealed the game in favor of the Hatters, which included a two-run double to make the score 6-1. Another double followed to tack on a seventh run.
Jasper starter
Tyler Fagler (0-1) pitched four innings, yielding three earned runs while punching out five.
The Jaspers time in the Sunshine State comes to an end tomorrow, with first pitch at Melching Field scheduled for 1 p.m.
