RIVERDALE, N.Y.- Manhattan sweeps Stonehill on the road, securing their second sweep of the season. The final set scores were 26-24, 26-24, and 25-18.
Today, against the Skyhawks, the Jaspers won all three sets, with the first two surpassing the regulation 25 points.
In the first set, the Jaspers trailed the Skyhawks for the majority of the first half of the set. It wasn't until an ace by
Maike Bertens that the Jaspers were able to retake the lead. Bertens' service ace led to a 7-2 run for the Jaspers, allowing them to take the lead at 19-17. This lead gave the Jaspers the boost they needed to secure the set victory.
The second set played out in a similar manner to the first; however, the Jaspers were able to maintain their lead for the entire set.
In the third and final set, the Skyhawks had their strongest showing yet. Shortly after scoring the first three points of the set, the Skyhawks were able to take the lead from the Jaspers, leading by as much as seven. However, despite the way the set started, the Jaspers fired off a massive 14-3 run to win the set.
Leading the Jaspers' offense were
Mikalah Curran with 12 kills.
Sarah Emmons led the team tonight in assists, setting up 29 for her teammates.
Manhattan plays again on Saturday, October 21st, at 1:00 p.m. against Siena College at Draddy Gymnasium.
