RIVERDALE, N.Y. – Manhattan had the honor of being the first MAAC men's soccer team to compete in the 2022 campaign, and they took full advantage, handing Holy Cross a 2-0 defeat.
It is the second season in a row that the Jaspers' opened their season against a Patriot League member and shut them out, last year blanking Lehigh 1-0.
It was a closely contested opening 45 minutes, but it would be newcomer
Gunnar Studenhofft to strike first for the Green and White, beating the Crusaders keeper Jimmy Joyce to score the club's first goal of the 2022 campaign off a pass from captain
James Cotter.
Studenhofft sealed the Crusaders' fate in the 82nd minute when he broke through the Crusaders' backline and beat Joyce on the opposite post, right-to-left, off another pass from Cotter.
Danny DiMarco got the starting nod in net, playing all 90 minutes and recording his sixth career clean sheet while recording four saves, including denying the Crusaders' best chance to tie the match in the 68th minute with a fantastic save from a close off on a Jon Klein chance.
The club's first road contest takes them to the nation's capital for a matchup with George Washington on Sunday, Aug. 28, at 1 p.m. The match can be viewed on
