POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y.- The Manhattan men's lacrosse team defeated the Marist Red Foxes on their home field, 13-12, in overtime in the semifinals of the 2022 MAAC Championship.

Kyle Gucwa scored the game-winner 15 seconds into overtime to advance Manhattan (7-6) to the finals. Gucwa scored two goals and added an assist for the Jaspers.

Liam Walshe scored early and often in tonight's contest. The attack scored his first goal less than two minutes into the game and secured a hat-trick by the end of the quarter.

Walshe scored his fourth and tied the game up at four twenty seconds into the second period. The Commack, N.Y. native added the next two goals for the Green and White. Gucwa then scored his first of the day with just ten seconds remaining on the clock to make it an 8-7 game at the half. Â

Despite Marist (7-8) leading for the duration of the third period, the Jaspers never allowed a lead larger than two.
Jack Shanley connected with
Justin Malpica to find the back of the net at the nine-minute mark. Walshe added another pair of goals to make it an 11-10 game at the start of the final quarter. Â

Malpica scored one of his own to tie it up at 11 with 13 minutes left to play. The Jaspers then took a 12-11 lead when
Tadhg O'Riordan managed to pick up a loose ball at midfield and did the rest himself. The Red Foxes' Joshua Balcarcel then tied the game up at 12 to send the game into overtime. Â

The Jaspers only needed fifteen seconds of overtime play to secure a 13-12 victory. Gucwa sped past the Red Fox defense to get shot off and send Manhattan to the championship game for the second consecutive year.Â

Brendan Krebs made nine saves in goal for the Jaspers. The graduate student's final save came with eight seconds to play in regulation to keep the game going. Â

Walshe finished the day with a career-best eight goals for the Jaspers. Malpica secured a goal and an assist for Manhattan. Jack Shanley added a goal for the Green and White.Â

Next for the Jaspers is top-seeded St. Bonaventure in the title game on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. The game will broadcast on ESPNU. Â
