NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y. – Manhattan concluded its trip to Western New York with a split at Niagara on Sunday.
Game 1: Niagara 9, Manhattan 1 (6 innings)
Annie Moore homered to get the scoring started in the top of the first. It was Moore's sixth homer of the season.
Niagara immediately responded in the bottom half. Shayna Myshrall kept one fair down the left-field line.
With the score even at one, Niagara sent nine hitters to the plate in the five-run third. Three of the runs scored on a Jasper error. The first run for the Purple Eagles came on a double, with the second scoring on a passed ball.
The final three runs for the Purple Eagles came when Maggie Kellner doubled with the bases loaded.
Kaitlyn Flood and
Megan Hedlund tallied other hits for the Jaspers. Four Purple Eagles had multiple hits.
Game 2: Manhattan 9, Niagara 5
The Jaspers built a 9-0 lead over the first five innings.
Manhattan pushed three across in the first. Flood singled with runners at the corners to bring home the first run. Hedlund brought in the second run with a sacrifice fly, and Flood came around to score on a passed ball.
After Moore plated a pair with a single in the second,
Gabi Mills homered to left to start the fourth. The Jaspers' third baseman brought in two more in the fifth with a single through the left side. A fielder's choice brought in the ninth run for the Jaspers.
Niagara got on the board in the bottom of the fifth with a home run and a double. In the bottom of the seventh, the Purple Eagles sent nine hitters to the plate. Niagara's three runs were unearned.
Marika Deemer got the start for the Jaspers and picked up her first win of the season after tossing four shutout innings. Deemer surrendered only two hits.
Mills finished 3-for-4 with three RBI. Those are the first three RBI of the season for the freshman. Moore had two RBI for the Jaspers.
Manhattan welcomes Saint Peter's to Gaelic Park on Thursday in the penultimate MAAC doubleheader of the season. Manhattan wraps up the 2022 regular season on Saturday at Fairfield.
