PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Manhattan dropped the first game of a weekend series to Siena 11-2 on Friday night. Siena used a six-run sixth inning to put the game out of reach.
Siena (8-20, 5-2 MAAC) started the scoring with two in the top of the first on an RBI groundout and single. Manhattan (13-13, 4-3) got on back in the first when
David Bermudez scored on an error.
The Saints added runs in the third and fifth innings before the Jaspers cut into the deficit in the home half of the fifth. With one away and the bases loaded,
Pete Durocher brought in the second run of the day with a groundout to second to make it 4-2 Siena.
In the six-run sixth, Siena sent 11 hitters to the plate. The Saints needed only two hits and benefited from an error by the Jaspers that extended the inning. The final three runs of the inning were scored with two outs, with Bryce Mordecki scoring the last run of the inning on a wild pitch.
Bermudez,
Harrison Treble, and
Jack Lynch went 2-for-5 for the Jaspers. Bermudez and Treble scored the two runs for Manhattan.
Will Hesslink started for the Jaspers and went five innings, allowing four runs and striking out eight. Mike McCully went seven innings for the Saints to collect his second win of the season.
The two sides square off at 7:45 p.m. on Saturday at Pace University for game two of the series. Fans will need to complete the form in accordance with the
