Jaspers Hold Off Broncs in Narrow Win

LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. – Manhattan had a slow start before coming back and pulling away from Rider, 56-49, on Thursday night in Lawrenceville, NJ.

Manhattan (14-9, 9-5 MAAC) picked up its ninth win in MAAC play and won its third in a row away. 

Rider (6-15, 4-8) jumped out to a 3-0 lead inside the first three minutes, but the Jaspers answered with a 4-0 run to pull ahead 7-3. The Broncs would not lead again in the quarter. 

The Jaspers used an 11-0 run at the beginning of the second to turn a four-point deficit into a 21-14 lead with 6:56 to play in the quarter; Jenna Jordan supplied four points to the stretch.

In the third quarter, the Broncs managed to amass a lead of ten with 4:28 to play. However, the Jaspers fought back to close the lead to five at the end of the quarter, 40-35. Dee Dee Davis had three points in the run to help the Jaspers. 

The Jaspers started the fourth with a spark, going on a 6-0 run to retake the lead, 41-40. Dee Dee Davis was able to find Brazil Harvey-Carr under the basket to tie the game up at 43. Davis followed that with a deep jump shot to put the Jaspers ahead 45-43. Manhattan managed to pull away and secure a 56-49 victory. Manhattan held the Broncs to just nine points in the final quarter compared to their respective 21 points. 

Courtney Warley finished with a game-high 22 points and 13 rebounds. This is the West Chester, Pa. native's 11th double-double of the year. Davis had 14 points, nine 'boards, and two steals. Jordan finished with 10 points and six rebounds. Harvey-Carr also had five steals and added nine points and 10 rebounds.

Defensively, the Jaspers grabbed 56 rebounds, eleven steals, and five blocks. Manhattan forced eighteen Rider turnovers and converted those into sixteen points. 

The Jaspers have the weekend off and will return to action on Monday against Siena in Riverdale at 7 p.m. The Jaspers and Saints can be seen on ESPN3.
