STONY BROOK, N.Y. – The Manhattan women's basketball team suffered a road setback at Stony Brook this evening, 69-51.
A 12-2 run by Stony Brook opened an early lead in the first quarter, 15-6. The run was kicked off by an and-one by Anastasia Warren. The run was ended by
Helena Galunic, who hit a free throw then on the next possession connected on a jumper.
In the second quarter, the closest the Green and White got was four points off a deep ball from
Emily LaPointe. The Seawolves responded by ending the second quarter on an 11-0 run to enter the halftime break with a 40-22 lead. A lead that the Jaspers would never make a sizable dent in to get back into the contest.
The lead got down to 13 early in the fourth quarter, but a Stony Brook triple swung the momentum back in the favor of the home team.
Dee Dee Davis turned in another solid performance. Finishing with 12 points, nine rebounds and a pair of assists and steals. Galunic posted a career-high 9 points to go along with seven rebounds.
Jade Blagrove added seven points and eight rebounds.
Warren finished the game with 28 points on 10-17 from the field. Gigi Gonzalez chipped in 19 points and five rebounds.
Manhattan will return to the court again this Sunday, taking the court at Duquense.
