NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – The Manhattan men's soccer team suffered its first MAAC setback of the season, falling to Iona 2-1 on Saturday afternoon.
The Jaspers move to 4-4-3, 2-1-1 in conference play, while Iona moves to 3-3-2, 2-0-1 in MAAC play.
Manhattan got on the board first by way of a penalty kick. In the 12th minute, following a foul in the box by the Gaels,
Henry Hamilton lined up for a PK which he finished to give the Jaspers an early lead. The goal was Hamilton's third of his first year in Riverdale.
Iona got the equalizer in the 34th minute when Nathaniel David got the first goal past
Danny DiMarco in his last four matches. The 61st minute saw Iona gain the lead thanks to a goal from Federico Russo.
Manhattan outshot Iona 12-9, 6-4 shots on goals, and lining up for nine corner kicks. Today serves as the first loss charged to DiMarco, who owns a record 4-1-3 on the year with a GAA of .59.
The Jaspers' next match has them returning to Gaelic Park to welcome the MAAC's newest member, Mount St. Mary's, on Wednesday, Oct. 12, at 6 p.m.
