RIVERDALE, N.Y. – The Manhattan men's soccer club flexed their offensive skills Wednesday night, netting a season-high five goals in a 5-0 win over Mount St. Mary's at Gaelic Park.
With the win, the Jaspers improve to 5-4-3 while earning another three points in the MAAC. The Mount falls to 6-5-1.
The Jaspers five goals are the most the club has recorded since they scored five against VMI on Sept. 7, 2018.
The scoring started early this evening. In the sixth minute,
Henry Hamilton drew his second penalty kick in the last two matches and converted on the opportunity to take the early lead. Hamilton's goal was the earliest goal the Jaspers have scored all year.
Hamilton was not finished, however, in the 20th minute, he took a ball from
Gunnar Studenhofft and showed off his cannon of a leg, and fired the ball past the Mount's keeper from the left side of the box to grow the lead to 2-0. The goal was his fifth of the season.
Coming out of the second half, the Green and White once again struck quickly. In the 47th minute, Studenhofft did what he does best, beat defenders. The striker moved up field and outplayed the keeper to get the ball past him for his fourth goal of the year.
Anthony Denis joined the party next. The Jaspers lined up for a corner kick,
James Cotter sent the ball in and the defender headed the ball in for his first goal as a Jasper.
Johan Velez got back in the scoring column to conclude the scoring.
Dorian Bounab fired off a shot in the 64th minute that was saved by the Mount and Velez was there to put the ball away to make the score 5-0.
Danny DiMarco returned to form this evening, earning a combined shutout to tally his fifth win this season.
The Jaspers offense will look to stay hot at Gaelic Park this Saturday when the defending MAAC champion Marist comes to Riverdale for a 3 p.m. match.
