Jaspers Fall in Non-Conference Finale at St. Francis Brooklyn

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Manhattan fell in straight sets at St. Francis Brooklyn on Wednesday night. It was the non-conference finale for the Jaspers and the second meeting between the two teams this season.

Offensively, Manhattan (1-15) was led by Camila Gomez with 16 kills, a season-best. Gomez's previous best was nine, which came in the first meeting with St. Francis Brooklyn (7-13). Sarah Emmons had 15 assists for the Jaspers.

The Jaspers led early in set one, 5-3, 8-6, and 10-9. A kill from Gomez and a St. Francis Brooklyn gave Manhattan the 10-9 lead. The Terriers would score the next seven points to take a 16-10 lead. It would be as close as the remainder of the set would be.

Kills from Ananda Burgos and Teresa Garza got the Jaspers back level at 5-5 early on in set two. Nine of the following 10 points went to the Terriers as their lead grew to 14-6. St. Francis Brooklyn would go to win the set 25-11.

The final set was close in the early stages. The lead was no larger than three over the first 10 points. The Terriers built an 11-5 lead before the Jaspers trimmed it to three with a three-point spurt. St. Francis Brooklyn would then extend the lead back out to six, not letting Manhattan get any closer.

Arianna Ugolini led the Terriers with 10 kills. Eleven different Terriers had at least one kill.

Manhattan returns to MAAC play this weekend. The Jaspers will visit Fairfield on Saturday.
