FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Manhattan fell to Fairfield Saturday afternoon in its first away game after being at home for the past two weeks. The final scores of the three sets were 25-4, 25-10, and 25-13.
With a rough start in set one, the Jaspers picked it up in sets two and three. Set two looked much better for Manhattan with them breaking double digits and keeping the set within reach up until the Stags went on an eight-point run off of a kill by Maya Walker. Manhattan broke that eight-point run by scoring two points kicked off by an attack error, followed by a kill from
Teresa Garza.
The third set was much more competitive for both teams with no team allowing an eight-point run like in the previous sets. Manhattan was able to score the first point of the set off an attack error. They used that momentum to carry themselves throughout the game where they maintained a competitive presence. A kill from
Camila Gomez got Manhattan to within 17-10. However, towards the end, the Stags' offense began to pull away, and they took the set 25-13.
Top performers of the game were Gomez with six kills and 13 digs.
Julieanne McKee also had a season-high of 10 digs in the match.
Manhattan returns to the court on Sunday when it visits Quinnipiac in Hamden, Conn. at 1 p.m.
