Jaspers Battle Bobcats to Draw in Crucial MAAC Match

RIVERDALE, N.Y. – With a crucial three points on the line Wednesday night at Gaelic Park, the Manhattan men's soccer club and Quinnipiac left it all out on the pitch in a 0-0 draw.

Both teams earn themselves a point with the draw. Manhattan moves to 14 points with a record of 6-4-4 (4-1-2) while the Bobcats move to 8-3-3 (3-1-2). With the results from other MAAC matches now in, the Jaspers retain first place.

"Another top MAAC battle against arguably, the benchmark program in the MAAC.  I am not sure anyone deserved to win the game, but neither team deserved to lose it," said head coach Jorden Scott following this evening's battle "We have had 3 home games in 7 days and won 2 and tied 1, so we are positive about our momentum.  The next 2 games on the road present challenges that go beyond the teams and we have to be prepared to be at our best if we want to get more points on the table."

It was a defensive display by both clubs, with neither team getting many clean looks at the net without either the shot being blocked by opposing defenders or fired off target through traffic. Shot totals for tonight were Manhattan eight, and the Bobcats nine, with two and one shots being on target respectively.

The one on-target shot for the Bobcats came in the 82ed minute off a free kick. The Jaspers keeper, Danny DiMarco made a fantastic diving save to his left to keep the go-ahead goal off the board.

The Green and White did threaten many times during the match, including in the final 30 seconds. Following a caution issued to a Bobcat player. The Jaspers lined up for a free kick just outside the box. Freshman standout defender Nassim Akki sent the free kick just high of the net.

The Jaspers will continue to fend off the competition, aiming for another three points on Saturday with a trip up to Canisius. The match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
