BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Manhattan men's soccer team took care of business in its first road contest since Oct. 8, taking down Canisius 3-1 in MAAC play Saturday afternoon.
The Jaspers add another three points to the points column, moving to 17 points to go along with a record of 7-4-4, 5-1-2 in the Metro. As for the Golden Griffins, they fall to 1-8-6, 0-5-3 in the MAAC.
"I'm proud of the entire roster and staff on another big win on the road," said head coach
Jorden Scott. "We have gone eight games in four weeks and this game is one of the toughest with the travel and how competitive Canisius have been at home. We have more to achieve this year and our only focus now is Saint Peter's"
Manhattan struck first this afternoon. In the 27th minute,
Harry Bark found the back of the net for the first time this year off assists by
Gunnar Studenhofft and
Vladimir Lee. The play began with Lee sending the ball into the box. Studenhofft was there and sent a header towards the far post and Bark was there to put it away.
The second-half scoring was kicked off in the 57th minute by the Golden Griffins, following a foul in the box by the Jaspers, Canisius earned a penalty kick.
Daniel Polakowski stood against Canisus's Tarek El-Zammar. El-Zammar was able to get the ball past the freshman keeper to even the score at 1-1.
The go-ahead goal came in the 68th minute.
Henry Hamilton worked his way into the box and put a litany of moves on multiple Golden Griffons' defenders, drawing attention to him. With all the attention on him, Hamilton passed the ball to
Ronaldo Da Silva who fired a shot by the hands of the outstretched hand of the Canisius keeper to take a 2-1 lead.
Hamilton provided the insurance goal off a PK of his own. Hamilton has made a living on the penalty spot, scoring four of his six goals this year on PKs.
Polakowski earned his first collegiate win in net while making a pair of saves.
The Jaspers penultimate regular season game keeps them on the road, with Saint Peter's being the team's next foe next Wednesday, Oct. 26 at 2 p.m in Jersey City.
