RIVERDALE, N.Y. – Manhattan trailed by 10 early before coming back and pulling away from Monmouth, 73-57, on Sunday night at Draddy Gymnasium.
Manhattan (12-8, 7-4 MAAC) picked up its third straight win and remained perfect at home (7-0) with the 16-point victory.
Monmouth (10-7, 5-3) jumped out to an 11-2 lead inside the first three minutes. The Hawks would lead by as many as 10 in the opening quarter.
The Jaspers used a 12-0 run at the end of the first and to open the second to turn a seven-point deficit into a 25-22 lead with 6:33 to play in the quarter,
Dee Dee Davis supplied six points to the stretch.
In the third quarter, the Jaspers held the Hawks to three points over five minutes to extend the lead to 12, 50-38.
Brazil Harvey-Carr had seven in the run and nine in the quarter for the Jaspers.
Monmouth only scored two points in the first five minutes of the fourth. Manhattan scored 13 over that span to widen the advantage to 71-48.
Courtney Warley and Davis had eight of the 13.
Harvey-Carr finished with a game-high 20 points and six rebounds. Davis had 18 points, nine 'boards, and three steals. Warley finished with 15 points, seven rebounds, six steals, four assists, and two blocks.
Emily LaPointe also had four assists and added six points and five rebounds.
Defensively, the Jaspers limited the Hawks to 35 points over the final three quarters after allowing 22 in the opening 10 minutes. Manhattan forced 24 Monmouth turnovers and converted those into 15 points.
