Jaspers Complete Season Sweep Of Quinnipiac

Box Score (GM2) | Box Score (GM1)

Hamden, CT -
Manhattan swept a doubleheader at Quinnipiac by scores of 5-2 and 4-3 (10) at the Quinnipiac Softball Field.

With the victories, the Jaspers complete a four-game series sweep against the Bobcats in moving to 8-6.

Game Two
Graduate student Nicole Williams (Ansonia, CT / St. Joseph's) fired a 10-inning complete game masterpiece in leading Manhattan to a 4-3 win over Quinnipiac.

In the top of the 10th with the score tied at 2-2, sophomore Gabriella Mazzotta (Somers, NY / Somers) led off with a single, before scoring on Kylie Carr's (Jr., Andover, NJ / Immaculate Heart Academy) run-scoring triple. Sophomore Kaitlyn Flood (Southbury, CT / Pomperaug) followed with a RBI single that pushed home Carr while extending the Jaspers' advantage out to 4-2.

Quinnipiac would get a run back in the bottom of the 10th, but was unable to get any closer as Williams induced a ground out to end the game while stranding the tying run 90 feet from home.

Trailing 1-0 in the top of the fourth inning, the Jaspers broke through with a pair of runs. Junior Annie Moore (Northridge, CA / El Camino Real), sophomore Marika Deemer (Perrysburg, OH / Perrysburg) and senior Daniela Chiorazzi (Stony Point, NY / North Rockland) all singled to load up the bases with one out. Sophomore Lauren Rende (Ardsley, NY / Ardsley) then plated the first Jasper run with a sacrifice fly, before Deemer scored on a Mazzotta RBI single.

The Bobcats would tie it up at 2-2 in the sixth inning with a single score while setting the stage for Manhattan's extra-inning heroics.

Mazzotta had three hits and Moore two to account for half of the Jaspers' 10 hits.

Williams (2-1) yielded one earned run on hits with nine strikeouts over 10.0 innings in collecting the victory.

Game One
Fueled by a four-run third inning, Manhattan took the opener from Quinnipiac by a 5-2 count.

The Bobcats opened the scoring with a run in the second inning, before the Jaspers answered with four runs in the top of the third.

Junior Vani Patel (Firestone, CO / Herkimer County CC) tied it up with a RBI double, before Rende smoked a two-run double. Rende would later come around to score on an error to cap the Green & White's four-run outburst.

Rende would provide Manhattan with an insurance run, when she scampered home on a wild pitch in the seventh inning.

Graduate student Christine Gebhardt (Middletown, NJ / Middletown North), Patel, Rende and Flood all had two hits to pace a nine-hit Jasper attack.

Senior Kali Puppolo (Adams, MA / Herkimer County CC) improved to 3-3, striking out six, against just one walk, while yielding one run on seven hits over 6.0 innings

Manhattan will next play at Monmouth on Friday, April 9 with a doubleheader starting at 1:00 pm.
