Riverdale, NY – Canisius took both ends of a doubleheader with Manhattan by scores of 8-1 and 2-0 at Gaelic Park.
The Jaspers are now 6-6 while the Golden Griffins are 5-5.
Sophomore
Gabriella Mazzotta (Somers, NY / Somers) notched four hits on the day to lead the way for the Green & White, while junior
Annie Moore (Northridge, CA / El Camino Real) had another strong doubleheader in reaching base safely four times.
Game Two
Canisius shut out Manhattan 2-0 in the nightcap.
The Golden Griffins plated a pair of runs in the fourth inning, before the Jaspers posted their first major scoring threat in the fifth, as senior
Daniela Chiorazzi (Stony Point, NY / North Rockland) tripled with one out, but was left stranded.
In the next inning, Manhattan would load the bases as graduate student
Christine Gebhardt (Middletown, NJ / Middletown North) led off with a double, before Moore walked. Mazzotta then delivered an infield single to load them up with two outs. However, the Jaspers would be unable to capitalize.
The Jaspers had one final threat in the seventh as
Kylie Carr (Andover, NJ / Immaculate Heart Academy) singled with two outs, before Gebhardt lined out to end it.
Senior
Kali Puppolo (Adams, MA / Herkimer County CC) was solid in the circle, striking out four, against two walks, while yielding two runs on five hits over 5.1 innings, before sophomore
Marika Deemer (Perrysburg, OH / Perrysburg) fired 1.2 perfect innings with a pair of punchouts.
Game One
Canisius defeated Manhattan 8-1 in the opener.
The Golden Griffins scored seven runs in the first, before the Jaspers got one back in the fifth inning on senior
Victoria Alonso's (Stony Point, NY / North Rockland) solo home run.
Unfortunately, that would be as close as the Green & White would get.
Each team had seven hits, with Mazzotta going 3-for-3 with a double to lead the way for Manhattan.
Graduate student
Nicole Williams (Ansonia, CT / St. Joseph's) was strong in relief, striking out five, against three walks, while yielding one run on two hits over 6.0 innings.
Manhattan will next play at Quinnipiac on Wednesday, April 7 with first pitch tabbed for 1:00 pm.
