Riverdale, NY - MAAC-leading Fairfield swept Manhattan by scores of 16-4 and 12-4 in MAAC action at Van Cortlandt Park.
The Stags improve to 24-0, while the Jaspers fall to 6-14.
Game Two
Fairfield posted a 12-4 victory in the nightcap over Manhattan.
Despite the defeat, the Jaspers rapped out 11 hits.
Graduate student
Richie Barrella (Larchmont, NY / Canterbury Prep) was 3-for-3 with a walk, while junior
Nick Cimillo (Airmont, NY / Suffern) went 2-for-3 with a home run, two RBI and two walks and senior
Jake Knop (Portland, ME / Portland) was 2-for-4 with a double and a run to pace the offense.
Cimillo opened the scoring with a two-run home run in the bottom of the first inning, plating junior
Sam Franco (Bardonia, NY / Clarkstown South), who had doubled with one out.
Unfortunately, the Stags answered with three runs in their next trip to the plate en route to building a 9-2 lead.
Manhattan would cut it to 9-4 in the bottom of the eighth inning on
Will Trochiano's (Sr., Morganville, NJ / Marlboro) two-run infield single, but was unable to get any closer.
Junior LHP
Jack Mahoney (Latham, NY / Stony Brook) was solid on the mound, striking out three while yielding five runs, four earned, on six hits over 6.0 innings.
Game One
Fairfield took the opener over Manhattan by a 16-4 count.
Sophomore
Alfredo Delgado (Bronx, NY / Fordham Prep) led the way for the Jaspers, crushing a pair of home runs to left field while driving in three runs, while senior
Matt Padre (Flemington, NJ / Hunterdon Central) drove in a run with a RBI single to account for the other Green & White score.
The teams will conclude their four-game series tomorrow at 12:00 pm.
