BUFFALO, N.Y. – Manhattan outscored Canisius by 20 points over the second and third quarters to pick up the 85-63 win on Tuesday afternoon. The win splits the Western New York trip for the Jaspers.
Manhattan (6-5, 1-1 MAAC) shot 64-percent in the second quarter to build a seven-point halftime advantage, 37-30 after the teams were level after the opening 10 minutes. The offense went 52-percent (10-of-19) from the field in the third quarter, including four 3-pointers. The Jaspers made four more field goals and five more free throws than the Golden Griffins in the quarter to build a 20-point lead, 68-48.
Over the second and third quarters, the Jaspers went on multiple runs, including a 20-8 stretch during the second quarter. Manhattan outscored Canisius 20-2 in the lane over the second and third quarters and 40-10 in the game.
The lead would grow to as many as 27 for Manhattan, 85-58 in the fourth. Canisius (2-8, 0-2) would not get any closer than the halftime deficit of seven during the third and fourth quarters.
Three Jaspers were in double figures.
Dee Dee Davis and
Brazil Harvey-Carr led the way with 25 and 19.
Sydney Watkins had 12 points—all from behind the arc. Davis, whose 25 were two off her career-high, added six assists and three steals.
Defensively, the Jaspers forced 18 turnovers—12 steals—and scored 19 points over those 18 miscues. Manhattan held Canisius to 18 or fewer points in each quarter. Harvey-Carr had team-best four steals.
Manhattan is back on the court on Thursday, Dec. 30, when it hosts Siena at 7 p.m. inside of Draddy Gymnasium.
