Manhattan Falls In Overtime

Box Score (PDF)

Poughkeepsie, NY -
Senior Tyler Reynolds (Syracuse, NY / Harcum College) scored a career-high matching 23 points, on the strength of seven three pointers, but it wasn't enough as Manhattan dropped a 75-73 overtime decision at Marist.

Reynolds' corner triple with just 8.8 seconds remaining in regulation sent the game to overtime, before he drained his career-high seventh long ball in extra time, but it wasn't enough as the Jaspers fell to 8-8 and 4-3 in the MAAC, while the Red Foxes improve to 4-13 and 3-5 in the league.  Sophomore Warren Williams (Kingston, Jamaica / St. Benedict's Prep (NJ)) had 14 points and six rebounds, while classmate Tykei Greene (Queens, NY / Long Island Lutheran) added 11 points with four rebounds to round the double-figure scorers for the Green & White. After Reynolds' huge three pointer tied the game up at 62-62, senior Pauly Paulicap (Elmont, NY / Harcum College) made the defensive play of the night, as his rejection of Tyler Saint-Furcy preserved the stalemate.  With Manhattan trailing 71-66 with less than a minute to play in overtime, the visitors forced a five-second call with just over 36 seconds remaining, before Reynolds' step-back three pointer again made it a one-possession game.

Tyler Sagl answered with a pair from the line, before sophomore Elijah Buchanan (Bronx, NY / Woodstock Academy (CT)) buried a three pointer off a Williams' offensive board.

Sagl would again hit a pair from the line, and classmate Samir Stewart (Fort Lauderdale, FL / American Heritage) was fouled on the ensuing possession with 2.3 seconds remaining. Stewart would hit the first, and was in the process of missing the second intentionally when the Jaspers were called for a lane violation. Marist then fired a deep pass to the other end of the court to run out the clock while holding off a hard-charging Jasper unit.

Manhattan shot a robust 42.3 percent (22-of-52) from the floor, including 37.5 percent (12-of-32) from long range, while posting a 37-32 advantage on the glass.

Paulicap matched Williams with a team-high six rebounds while adding seven points, two steals and one huge block.

Marist shot 38.0 percent (19-of-50), including 43.8 percent (7-of-16) from deep, while posting a 37-32 advantage on the glass. Sagl scored 23 points while Braden Bell added 17 to pace the Red Fox attack.

The Jaspers will next be in action against Rider on Sunday, January 26 with opening tip tabbed for 2:00 pm.
