Riverdale, NY - Senior
Pauly Paulicap (Elmont, NY / Harcum College) notched 18 points, 11 rebounds and five blocks, but it wasn't enough as Manhattan dropped a 67-63 decision to Rider at Draddy Gymnasium.
The Jaspers fall to 8-9 and 4-4 in the MAAC, while the Broncs improve to 11-8 and 5-4 in the league.
Sophomore
Samir Stewart (Fort Lauderdale, FL / American Heritage) added 17 points and seven assists, while classmate
Warren Williams (Kingston, Jamaica / St. Benedict's Prep (NJ)) scored 10 to round out the double-digit performers for the Green & White.
Trailing 61-52 with 2:15 to play following a pair of Stevie Jordan free throws, Manhattan began its comeback bid as Paulicap converted in the paint, before hitting a pair from the line and delivering a raucous dunk that trimmed the deficit to three with 43 seconds to play.
After Rider briefly answered, Stewart hit a three pointer to make it a one-possession game at 63-61 with 14 seconds to play.
Unfortunately, the Broncs hit a pair from the line on back-to-back possessions to escape with the victory.
Frederick Scott scored a game-high 25 points with 11 rebounds, while Tyrei Randall finished with 16 points to lead the way for the visitors.
Rider opened up at a seven-point lead at the break, before extending its advantage out to a game-high 13 at 55-42 with 6:54 remaining.
Despite failing in its comeback bid, the Jaspers made things interesting thanks to converting on 63.6 percent (7-of-11) over the final seven minutes of action, with Paulicap (7), Stewart (6) and Williams (6) combining for 20 of the team's 21 points during that time.
