Jaspers Fall At Villanova

Villanova, PA - Freshman Emily LaPointe (Staten Island, NY / Staten Island Academy) scored a career-high 18 points at Villanova Thursday, November 21, leading the Jasper offense in a 63-51 loss to the Big East foe.

Manhattan falls to 1-3 on the year, while the Wildcats pick up their second win of the season to improve to 2-3.

Highlights:
  • LaPointe went 6-14 from the floor and 3-7 from three in her first collegiate start. She scored 12 points in the fourth quarter, helping the Jaspers cut the Villanova lead to four with 4:35 to play.
  • Pamela Miceus (Haverstraw, NY / Stony Point) also earned a career-high Thursday night, pulling down 11 rebounds and besting her former high of nine earned at home against Rider last season. Miceus earned nine boards in the first half against the Wildcats, and six in the first quarter.
  • Julie Høier (Aabyhoej, Denmark / Marselisborg Gymnasium) added 11 points to Manhattan's offense, a season-high for the senior forward. She also earned eight rebounds.
  • Lynette Taitt (Bronx, NY / Bishop Loughlin) contributed nine points Thursday, adding a team-high five assists and a game-high four steals.
  • Manhattan finished the first quarter up 10-9, holding the Wildcats to 19 percent shooting in the stanza while forcing three turnovers and drawing four fouls.
  • But the tables turned in the second quarter, as Villanova went 6-10 from the floor while out-rebounding the Jaspers 10-6, including nine defensive boards. Only able to score six points in the period, Manhattan went into the locker room down 23-16 at the half.
  • Villanova extended its lead to as many as 15 in the third quarter, but the Jaspers scored the last four points of the quarter to pull within 11 (40-29) going into the final 10.
  • Courtney Warley (West Chester, PA / Bishop Shanahan) opened the fourth quarter with a fast break and one to get the Jaspers within eight. After Villanova scored on the other end, Warley brought it back to eight with another layup.
  • LaPointe then sparked a run with a three at the 7:51 mark, with Høier contributing a layup a minute later to cut the Villanova lead to five. LaPointe would cap the run with another three at 4:35 to get within four, but it would be the closest the Jaspers would climb before time was called.
  • The Jaspers forced 18 Villanova turnovers, while committing just 13 on the other end. Manhattan also finished with eight teams steals to the Wildcats' seven.
  • Bolstered by freshman Madison Siegrist, Villanova scored 32 points in the paint to Manhattan's 26. Siegrist would finish the contest with a game-high 28 points and 14 rebounds.
