Lafayette Outlasts Jaspers In OT

Easton, PA - Unable to overcome a 9-2 overtime run by Lafayette, Manhattan women's basketball fell to the Leopards 60-53 on Tuesday, November 26 in Kirby Sports Center. Manhattan moves to 1-4 on the season, while Lafayette improves to 4-3 overall this year.

Highlights:
  • Manhattan extended its lead on Lafayette to 11 in the third quarter, opening up the second half with five-straight points. The Leopards then went on a 15-8 run to close out the stanza, cutting the Jasper lead to just three going into the final quarter.
  • Lafayette went 4-6 from behind the arc in the fourth, outscoring Manhattan 14-11 in the last 10 minutes of regulation. Tied at 49, Lynette Taitt (Bronx, NY / Bishop Loughlin) gave Manhattan the go-ahead bucket on a drive into the lane with 1:44 to play. Courtney Warley (West Chester, PA / Bishop Shanahan) then secured a defensive rebound on the other end to give the Jaspers the ball with 42 seconds to go.
  • Taitt missed a three-point jumper on the next possession, sending the ball down the other way with under 10 seconds to go. As Lafayette's Sarah Agnello went for the long three to win, she was fouled by Manhattan's Emily LaPointe (Staten Island, NY / Staten Island Academy) and sent to the line, where she made two of three, tying the game with two seconds left and ultimately sending it into OT.
  • Manhattan attempted just eight shots in the extra time, hitting only one. On the other end, Lafayette went 2-4 from the field and hit five of eight from the free throw line.
  • The Leopards pulled down 48 rebounds in the game, compared to Manhattan's 36, and held a 30-19 advantage on the defensive boards. Lafayette also earned 15 second-chance points in the game and scored 12 points off Manhattan's 16 turnovers.
  • LaPointe led Manhattan with 10 points and a nine rebounds, just one away from her first collegiate double-double. It was her second-straight double-figure scoring performance after earning a career-high 18 at Villanova on November 21.
  • Warley added eight points and five boards for the Jaspers.
