Pamela Miceus (Haverstraw, NY / North Rockland) found teammate
Courtney Warley (West Chester, PA / Bishop Shanahan) on the block for a layup to lift Manhattan over Fairleigh Dickinson 62-61 at the Rothman Center.
Warley finished the game with 17 points and a career-high 16 rebounds for her first double-double of the year and the Jaspers' first win of the season. Manhattan improves to 1-2 overall, while the Knights drop to 0-3.
Highlights:
- Manhattan faced a nine-point deficit with just 1:45 to play, putting together a 10-0 run fueled by strong defense.
- After Warley cut the lead to seven with two free throws, Lynette Taitt (Bronx, NY / Bishop Loughlin) stole the ball and pushed it up to Miceus for a fastbreak layup, getting the Jaspers within five at the minute mark.
- Thirty seconds later, freshman Emily LaPointe snagged a defensive rebound and set up Taitt for a field goal, but the shot was off. Miceus came up with the offensive board and was fouled, hitting the next two free throws to put the Jaspers down just three at 61-58.
- With 21 seconds to play, LaPointe came up big again, with a steal on a FDU bad pass. LaPointe tried for a three which was off the mark, but Warley grabbed the rebound and put it back up to get the Jaspers within one.
- The Jaspers then forced a five-second call with 13 left to go, setting up the final go-ahead play. The Knights would inbound the ball with 4.8 seconds to play, but would be unable to get a shot off.
- Manhattan had to overcome a poor offensive performance, shooting just 29.4 percent from the floor. The Jaspers took advantage at the foul line instead, going 18-22 from the charity stripe.
- Manhattan also committed just eight turnovers, the lowest of the season so far and the best performance since the Jaspers had just six turnovers against Canisius on March 2, 2019.
- Manhattan totaled eight steals on the day and forced 15 FDU turnovers, scoring 16 points off TOs. The Jaspers also held the advantage in points in the paint (24-18), second-chance points (19-4) and fast break points (14-5).
- Gabby Cajou (Stony Point, NY / North Rockland) finished in double-figures for Manhattan for the second-straight game, contributing 10 points, including eight of the Jaspers 13 third-quarter points. She added a game-high (tied) three assists.
- Taitt contributed seven points, five rebounds, a game-high four steals and two assists.
- FDU's Madison Stanley led all players with 22 points, shotting 9-14. Rachael Niles had 10 rebounds for the Knights.
