Easton, PA - Manhattan volleyball won its first set of the 2018 season Friday, August 31 against Lafayette at the annual Crosstown Tournament in Easton, PA. But it wasn't enough to secure a Jasper win, as Manhattan fell 3-1 to the Leopards. Manhattan falls to 0-5 overall this season, while Lafayette improves to 1-2.Â
Game Notes:
- Senior Alyssa Rehrer (Lorton, VA / South County) compiled a game-high 16 digs, bringing her season total to 75. Freshman setter Shruti Mangipudi (San Ramon, CA / Dougherty Valley) added 10 digs.Â
- Sophomore Erin Hoener (St. Louis, MO / Incarnate Word) also earned a game-high four blocks, doubling her best performance so far this season. Sophomore Meagan Miller (Oakville, ON / Oakville Tralfalgar) added three blocks for the Jaspers.Â
- Freshman hitter Vivian Donovan (Newport Beach, CA / Newport Harbor) led the Jaspers with nine kills, her best performance of the season (Donovan earned eight kills against Cal State Fullerton on August 30). Senior Casey Monroe (Riverview, FL / Riverview) added seven kills.Â
- Senior hitter Olyvia Chaltas (Temecula, CA / Great Oak) put together four service aces in the match, her first aces of the season.
- Manhattan compiled a .183 hitting percentage, besting Lafayette's .176. But the Leopards finished with a 46-37 kill advantage.Â
- The Jaspers committed 10 reception errors and 15 service errors.Â
- Lafayette's Grace Tulevech led all players with 18 kills for the Leopards. She also earned five aces and totaled 24.5 points for the match.Â
Manhattan is back in action Saturday, September 1 against Lehigh in Bethlehem, PA at 10:00 am. They'll finish the Crosstown Tournament at 1:00 pm against Coppin State.Â
