Riverdale, NY - Bryant held off Manhattan 17-10 in the season opener for each team at Gaelic Park despite three goals from freshman Brandon Grinnell (Wakefield, MA / Wakefield Memorial).

Grinnell's performance highlighted an impressive performance from the Jasper newcomers, which combined for eight goals, with reigning MAAC Rookie of the Year sophomore Parker Giarratana (Delray, FL / Boca Raton Community) notching the other two scores.

Junior Michael Zingaro (Cortland Manor, NY / Walter Panas) had another solid performance in the net, making 16 stops between the pipes.

Bryant opened the scoring in the first quarter before freshman Reid Martin (Buffalo, NY / Canisius) found the back of the net to tie it up at 1-1 at the 8:09 mark. After the Bulldogs responded with three scores, Grinnell scored the first of his three goals off a Giarratana pass. Giarratana followed suit with a goal of his own to draw Manhattan to one at 4-3 at the 8:13 mark of the second quarter while pressuring Bryant into a timeout.

Unfortunately, the Bulldogs answered with five-straight goals in jumping out to a 9-3 lead at the break.

The never-say-die Jaspers again rallied with a pair of scores to start the third quarter as freshman Luke Hanson (Middletown, NY / Minisink Valley) and Grinnell found the back of the net.

Bryant then rattled off three-straight goals to end the third in taking a 12-6 lead.

In the fourth quarter, the Bulldog advantage would grow to 17-7 before Hanson, freshman Trevor Pelletier (Miami, FL / Gulliver Prep) and Martin scored to provide the final 17-10 margin.

Manhattan would the ground ball battle (29-25) with sophomore Robert Carroll (Grosse Pointe Park, MI / Grosse Pointe South) notching nine to go along with an assist.

Freshman CJ Scharf (West Islip, NY / West Islip) rounded out the top offensive performers with a pair of assists.

The Jaspers continue their three-game homestand against Wagner on Saturday, February 11 with opening face-off slated for 1:00 pm.
