RIVERDALE, NY – After seeing its doubleheader with Wagner postponed twice, the Manhattan College softball team finally took on the Seahawks under beautiful conditions at Gaelic Park on Monday.  Manhattan (16-10) scored 10 runs in the first two innings en route to a 10-9 victory in the opener, while Wagner (12-17) used a three-run seventh to notch a 3-2 win in game two.

Shannon Puthe (Mullica Hill, NJ) got the Jasper offense going immediately in game one, leading off the bottom of the first with a triple to left field.  Elena Bowman (San Mateo, CA) followed with an RBI single to left before Jenn Vazquez (Fairfield, CT) doubled to left center.  After Briana Matazinsky (Valley Falls, NY) singled home a run, Stephanie Reinhardt (Albany, NY) drove in another with a grounder to second.  Matazinsky came around on an Andi Stallard (Katy, Texas) fielder's choice, and Emily Cutler (Bloomingdale, NJ) made it 6-0 with Manhattan's second triple of the inning.

Wagner pulled within 6-4 on Erica Krumbine's grand slam in the top of the second, but the Jaspers countered with four more in the bottom half of the inning.  Bowman drew a leadoff walk before moving to third on a Vazquez double and scoring on Matazinsky's single to left.  After Reinhardt walked to load the bases, Manhattan picked up a run on a Wagner error.  Matazinsky came in from third on a double play, and Rachael Mumma (Mechanicsburg, PA) put the Jaspers in front 10-4 with an RBI single down the right field line.

The Seahawks chipped away at the Manhattan lead, putting up a three-spot in the top of the sixth.  Wagner then pulled within 10-9 on Brianna Tredway's two-run single in the seventh.  With Tredway on second as the tying run, Anna Crowley (Eastchester, NY) struck out Laura Petri to lock down the victory.

Every Manhattan starter either scored or drove in a run in game one.  Matazinsky finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs, while Vazquez went 2-for-4 with two runs scored.  Cutler was 2-for-2 with two RBIs.  Bowman and Victoria Ross (Bloomfield, NJ) each scored twice in the contest.  Danielle Gabriel (Island Heights, NJ) started in the circle and tossed 1.1 innings.  She allowed four runs (three earned) on three hits, struck out one and walked one.  Erin Hamm (Collegeville, PA) (4-1) picked up the win after giving up three unearned runs on four hits in 4.2 innings.  She struck out four and walked two.  Crowley pitched the seventh and registered her second save.  She yielded two runs on three hits with a walk and two strikeouts.

For Wagner, Petri went 2-for-5 with two RBIs, and Maddie Marable was 2-for-4 with a run scored.  Karen Prihoda and Aerika High each scored twice for the Seahawks, while Krumbine drove in four runs on her grand slam.  Tredway, meanwhile, ended up 1-for-5 with three RBIs.  Starting pitcher McKaleigh Goodale (5-7) tossed 5.2 innings in the circle, surrendering seven runs (four earned) on nine hits and two walks.  Ciera Luna was charged with three runs (one earned), two hits and two walks in 0.1 innings of work.

While the first contest was a 10-9 slugfest, game two was a pitchers' duel between Stephanie Kristo (San Jose, CA) and Gina Massaro.  Thru five innings, Massaro had allowed just one hit—a Vazquez single, while Wagner's only three hits off Kristo were Tredway singles.

Vazquez led off the bottom of the sixth with her second single of the game.  The Seahawks tried to get the out at second on Matazinsky's grounder to short, but the throw went into right field, putting runners on second and third with nobody out.  After Reinhardt popped to third, Esther Gonsalez (San Antonio, TX), who recorded her first collegiate hit in the first game, collected her first career RBI with a grounder to second.

However, the Seahawks rallied for three runs in the top of the seventh.  Prihoda led off the inning with a single and scored the tying run on Tredway's fourth hit of the game—a double to center.  Wagner took the lead on Lauren Serrato's grounder to third, and a Marable single made it 3-1 in favor of the Seahawks.  Morgan Brown, who entered after the first two Jaspers reached in the sixth, tossed a perfect seventh to secure a split for Wagner.

Brown (6-9) retired all six batters she faced to earn the win.  Massaro went five-plus innings, yielding one unearned run on two hits while striking out eight and walking four.  Tredway had half of the Seahawks' eight hits, going 4-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI.  Marable was 2-for-4 with an RBI, while Prihoda and Krumbine each had a hit and a run scored.

Both of Manhattan's hits in game two came off the bat of Vazquez.  Kristo (5-3) tossed a complete game, allowing three runs on eight hits with a pair of strikeouts and a walk.

On Wednesday, Manhattan visits Lehigh (24-8) for a 2:30 p.m. twinbill.  It marks the start of an eight-game road trip for the Jaspers.
