NEW YORK, NY – The Manhattan Jaspers softball team (10-22, 7-6 MAAC) fell to the Lions of Columbia University (15-15, 7-5 Ivy League) by a score of 12-4 in five innings on Wednesday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Coming off five consecutive conference victories, the Green and White rode high on the short trip southbound to the prestigious Ivy League institution.
- After starting the game with an Anissa Villalobos walk, Lindsey Hoag doubled to left field to bring home the senior to open the scoring.
- In the top of the fourth, trailing by seven, Victoria Diaz worked a walk to open the inning, with Michayla Rodriguez smacking a single up the middle to post runners on the right side with no one out.
- During the next at-bat, Jamie Falotico brought home Diaz from third on a sacrifice fly into right field.
- The Jaspers didn't stop fighting in the top of the fifth, with the reigning MAAC Rookie of the Week, Brianna Estevez, doubling down the right field line.
- On the ensuing at-bat, Hoag slapped a double into right-center to bring home Estevez to post the Jaspers' third run.
- With Kiseloski singling into right and Victoria Diaz grounding out to second, Hoag would cross the plate to become the fourth run.
STATS AND NOTES
- Manhattan still holds its five-game conference winning streak despite falling to Columbia.
- Michayla Rodriguez logged a two-for-three afternoon. Rodriguez has now posted hits in three of the last four games.
- Lindsey Hoag paced the Jaspers with a pair of two-baggers in the contest, scored a run, and logged two RBIs. Hoag heads to New Rochelle looking for a three-game hitting streak and has logged hits in four of her last five games.
- Brianna Estevez extended her hitting streak to four straight games with her fourth straight two-for-three game. The reigning MAAC Rookie of the Week is in the midst of a four-game hitting and run-scored streak.
- First baseman Tajianna Pickett slapped a base hit for the Green and White.
