SURPRISE, Ariz. - Oklahoma scored four runs in the first inning, helping the Sooners blank Manhattan 9-0 in the first game of the Arizona State Invitational. The game was played at the spring training home of the Kansas City Royals and Texas Rangers.
The Sooners took advantage of two walks and three errors in the bottom of the first inning to plate four runs on one hit to take an early 4-0 advantage.
Manhattan starter Matt Simonetti needed just nine pitches to retire Oklahoma in order in the second inning, but the Sooners scored three times on four hits in the third inning to move ahead, 7-0.
The Jaspers got runners in scoring position in the second, third and fourth innings but Oklahoma starter Corey Copping was able to strand those runners on base.
Joe Jacques entered the game in the fourth inning and tossed 3 2/3 innings, allowing two runs on four hits. Chris Liquori made his first appearance of the season, holding Oklahoma without a hit over 1 1/3 innings.
Yoandry Galan went 2-for-3 for the Jaspers and Christian Santisteban belted his second double of the season.
Manhattan will return to action on Friday, February 28 against #18 Oklahoma State at 6 p.m.

Chris Kalousdian, Andrew Gorecki and Vin Teixeira also collected base hits for Manhattan ... Oklahoma (6-3) had been ranked #17 in last week's USA Today coaches poll before dropping out of the top 25 this week.
