Jaspers Drop Series Finale at TCU

Box Score

RIVERDALE, N.Y. -
The Manhattan baseball team fell in its series finale at TCU (26-15) on Sunday as the Jaspers suffered an 11-0 setback to the Horned Frogs. TCU junior third baseman Jantzen Witte led the team with three RBI and freshman shortstop Keaton Jones knocked in two more runs to get past Manhattan (20-23).

Jaspers' relief pitcher Matt Jordan gave Manhattan 3 1/3 strong innings of work allowing only three hits and striking out two Horned Frogs. Jordan replaced sophomore starter Michael Martin who lasted 2 2/3 innings in his first loss of the season. TCU reliever Trey Teakell earned his first victory of the year after pitching four scoreless innings of two hit ball with three strikeouts.

The Horned Frogs scored nine of their 11 runs in the first three innings. Witte pushed the first run across, which was followed by freshman first baseman Kevin Cron's RBI single that gave TCU a 2-0 advantage by the end of the first inning. Junior catcher Josh Elander smacked a two-run homer in the second inning and the Horned Frogs tacked on five more runs on three hits and one error in the third inning. Witte capped the five run flurry with a two RBI single that gave TCU a 9-0 advantage.

Manhattan got only one hit and one walk off of Horned Frogs' starting pitcher Stefan Crichton who carried TCU into the fourth inning. The rest of the Horned Frogs' pitching staff was equally as stingy as they allowed only four more hits and struck out a combined six Jaspers.

TCU freshman Caleb St. Laurent added a RBI single in the seventh inning and a bases loaded balk sent home the second run of the frame to open the 11-0 advantage.

Manhattan freshman first baseman Vin Teixeira was a bright spot for the Jaspers as he went 2-for-2 from the plate coming off the bench.

The Jaspers look to bounce back on Tuesday when they travel to cross-Bronx rival Fordham. First pitch is slated for 7 p.m.
