Jaspers Storm to 10-Run Victory at NYIT

Jaspers' senior outfielder Mike McCann blasted three home runs and recorded a career-high six RBI as Manhattan (23-12) smothered New York Institute of Technology (10-20) by a score 20-10 on Tuesday at President's Field in Old Westbury, N.Y. Seniors Mark Onorati, Chad Salem and sophomore Anthony Vega also homered for the Jaspers helping Manhattan win its eighth consecutive contest and 18th of its last 19 games.

Manhattan pitcher Mike Giordano won his sixth consecutive start striking out five batters without allowing a walk in four innings of work. Jaspers' freshman Jared Hirschberg pitched two strong innings of relief yielding only one hit to go along with two strikeouts. McCann made his collegiate debut on the mound getting in one inning of work, while senior Rob Ardino and Taylor Sewitt each pitched an inning as Manhattan secured its 13th road victory of the year.

The Jaspers combined for 25 hits in the ballgame as McCann led the way with a perfect 5-for-5 performance at the plate. Onorati hit 3-for-4 and scored two runs, while senior Austin Sheffield and freshman Chris Kalousdian also had three hit efforts. Kalousdian tripled, scored two runs and had two RBIs after earning a spot start at second base.

Vega established a career-high with four RBI and he scored two runs. Vega blasted his second home run of the season, a three run blast as part of a nine run seventh inning surge. Salem matched Vega's three-run homer in the seventh inning for his team leading eighth homer and 43rd RBI of the season. It marked Salem's 13th multi-RBI game this year.

The Jaspers took their first lead of the ballgame by scoring three runs in the second inning and they would never look back. Kalousdian delivered the go-ahead two-run single down the left field line. Manhattan scored again in the third inning with a solo home run from McCann, and then again in the fourth inning with a sacrifice fly from sophomore Nick Camastro.

Manhattan scored twice in the sixth inning on a solo home run from Onorati and McCann's sacrifice fly. The Jaspers then posted nine runs on eight hits in the seventh inning to take a 16-2 lead. In the eighth inning, McCann launched a three-run bomb and freshman Jeffrey Mathers registered a RBI single to account for the Jaspers' 20th run.

NYIT scored eight of its 10 runs in the final three innings. Red-shirt senior George Carroll led the Bears offense batting 3-for-5 with four RBI and two runs scored.

Manhattan returns to action on Wednesday when the Jaspers visit Albany. First pitch is slated for 3:30 p.m.
