Game 1 Box Score

Game 2 Box Score

Riverdale, N.Y. (April 27, 2008) ? The Manhattan College Softball team split with Fairfield University in a MAAC doubleheader today, losing 7-3 in the first game but bouncing back to win 4-2 in the second.  Senior Jaclyn Churilla went 1-3 and drove in two RBI's as she played in her last home game for Manhattan.

In the first game, the Lady Jaspers went down early as Fairfield scored in the top of the second to make it a 1-0 game.  The Lady J's would go down as much as 4-0 when in the bottom of the fifth inning, when Churilla hit a two-out double to drive in two runs and cut their deficit in half.  Manhattan would put up one more run off a Lyndzie Phillips single, but would go on to fall 7-3.

In the second game, Manhattan was the first one to strike as Phillips hit a single up the middle to drive in a run in the bottom of the first.  But Fairfield would answer back as they put up a run of their own in the top of the second to make it a 1-1 game.  But the Lady Jaspers were not done as Phillips drove in her second and third run of the games on a RBI single in the bottom of the third.  With a 3-1 lead, Fairfield would score a run in the top of the fourth to make it a one run game, 3-2.  But the Lady J's would add an insurance run as Devon Gustafson knocked a pinch hit RBI single to put Manhattan up, 4-2.  The Lady Jaspers would hold strong in the seventh inning as they would cruise onto to victory.

Phillips sparked the Manhattan offense with a 4-5 day from the plate, driving in four RBI's and scoring a run.  Allison Smith got the win for Manhattan, pitching 4.0 innings giving up two runs off of two hits.  Ashley Rampino came in for the save as she pitched 3.0 innings of shutout ball, giving up only two hits.

The Lady Jaspers improve their record to 10-28 overall and 5-9 in conference play.  They will return to action on Thursday, May 1 as they will travel to take on Stony Brook University in a non-conference match-up.  Game time is set for 3:00 p.m.
