MEN'S SOCCER FALLS TO #1 RANKED TEAM IN REGION 1-0

Riverdale, N.Y. (October 19, 2007) ? Despite outshooting Loyola of Maryland 16-7, the Manhattan College men's soccer fell to the Greyhounds 1-0.  Loyola is ranked number 1 in the region in the latest NSCAA rankings.

“This was the best we've played all season, but we just came up short,” said Manhattan College coach Michael Swanwick.

The Jaspers controlled both halves of the game, outshooting Loyola 5-4 in the first half and 11-3 in the second half.  But in the 58th minute, Loyola's Camilio Correa sent a long ball into the box that Greyhound midfielder Eddie Dines flicked onto striker Phil Bannister who slid the ball past Jasper keeper John Ciano.

Minutes later, the Jaspers nearly tied the game up when freshman striker Thomas Bandov struck a low shot that beat the Loyola keeper, but struck the post and bounced out.  “That is about the eighth post or crossbar that we've hit in the past four games, but I know that those shots are going to start to go in,” Swanwick commented.

Ciano only had to make two saves on the night for the Jaspers, now 2-10-1 and 0-4-0 in the MAAC.  Loyola is now 12-2-0 and 5-0-0 in the MAAC.
