Lawrenceville, N.J. (October 29, 2006)- In its regular season finale, Manhattan dropped a 2-0 decision at Rider University this afternoon. The Jaspers concludes a season of growth that saw the program triple its win total from a year ago.
The first half saw each team probing the opposition's defense, as the two sides combined for just four shots. Freshman John Gannon's shot that sailed high in the 41st minute was the Jaspers' best scoring chance in the opening stanza.
Rider came out of the gates quickly in the second half, scoring the game's first goal just 2:03 into the second half. The offense became more frenetic for both sides at that point, as the second half saw 18 combined shots and three of the four goalkeeper saves.
The Broncs doubled their lead at the 73:11 mark, and held off five shot attempts and three corner kicks from the Jaspers to earn the MAAC win.
John Ciano made two saves for Manhattan in net, while Daniel Riverso matched Ciano's two saves.
Adam Kiley and
Bryan Knight each tallied a shot on goal for the Jaspers.
