Jamaica, NY (April 17, 2004)-The Men's Track & Field Team won the Outdoor Metropolitan Championship title earning 179.50 points. This is the first time in twelve years the Jaspers have taken home the MET Title. The second and third place teams were LIU (111 points) and St. John's (105.5). The women earned second place with a total of 122 points. Beating the women was Rutgers (192 points) and in third place was St. John's.
All together the men had a total of five athletes earn a first place finish. It started yesterday when Thomas Jacob Freeman took home the Hammer Throw Title after his toss of 67.20m. Matt Reilly competed in the 1500m taking first after running it in a time of 3:51.37. Newcomer Christano Johnson jumped 2.10m in the High Jump taking a first place finish qualifying himself for the NCAA Regionals. In the Long Jump, Magnus Ahlen finished first after his leap of 6.92m and Janek Augustynowicz placed second after his jump of 6.81m. Adeniyi Omisore also grabbed the number one spot in the Triple Jump after his jump of 15.53m. Tyler Raymond took second place in the 800m finishing in 1:55.24. Zoran Loncar threw 47.44m in the Discus taking second place.
On the women's side, there were three athletes winning their event and there were four women earning second place. Teresa Frierson earned first place in the 400m dash finishing in a time of 56.78. She also ran the 200m Dash finishing second with a time of 24.95. In the Pole Vault, Jenna Daly vaulted her way to first place after vaulting 3.05m. Karin Larsson earned first in the Shot Put throwing 13.28m. Ginine Lucarello took second in the 5000m finishing the run in 18:38.65. In the High Jump, Renee Foti earned second place jumping 1.60m. Marina Liander took second in the Hammer Throw after her toss of 46.10m.
The men and women's Track & Field teams have already won several honors this year including the Men's and Women's Indoor MAAC Championships, Indoor IC4A Championships, and the Men's Metropolitan Indoor Championships.
The Jaspers compete again at the Penn Relays on Thursday, April 22nd starting at 10am.
