POUGHKEEPSIE, NY – The Manhattan Jaspers Men's Lacrosse team (5-7, 3-3 MAAC) fell to the Red Foxes of Marist University (6-6, 4-2 MAAC) by a score of 14-10 inside Tenney Stadium on Saturday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Green and White were looking to flip the recent script. They got off to a hot start, with Drew Hiner opening the game with a goal beyond the reach of Noble Smith.
- Upon a goalie change for the Red Foxes, the opposition knotted the game at one before Loudon Sheehan put the Jaspers back in front in the 11th minute of the game.
- Manhattan ended the first quarter in style, with Hiner finding Jack Miller to tack on the game's third goal and extend its lead to a pair.
- After Marist re-took the lead, the Jaspers scored three unanswered down the stretch of the second quarter courtesy of Liam Peabody, Scott O'Connor with a man-down, and Kelly DuPree 56 seconds later.
- In the third quarter, the Jaspers fell behind to the Red Foxes before Hiner found the back of the net to tie the game at eight mid-way through the penultimate stanza.
- The Jaspers added another two goals from DuPree and Hiner to tie the game at 10 with two minutes remaining in the third quarter.
STATS AND NOTES
- Senior goalkeeper Connor Hapward logged 17 saves on the evening. Both teams turned the ball over 10 times a piece.
- Drew Hiner netted three goals on the afternoon on a team-high eight shots, with four reaching the net. Additionally, he assisted on two goals and caused one turnover.
- Loudon Sheehan netted one goal on two shots in the effort.
- Casey Klossner picked up six ground balls and caused one turnover. Klossner won nine face-offs in the 25 attempts.
- Liam Peabody recorded one goal on five shots, with three on target, while scooping one ground ball.
- Connor Engel added one goal and one assist. Additionally, Engel grabbed three ground balls and logged four shots, with two on target.
- Kelly DuPree tied a team-high with eight shots recorded and paced the Jaspers with five reaching target. Two shots found the back of the net.
