Baseball Drops Doubleheader to Fairfield; Lewis Stays Hot at the Plate

TEANECK, NJ — Manhattan (7-11, 2-4 MAAC) baseball dropped the final two games of the series versus Fairfield (12-4, 3-0 MAAC) on Saturday, falling in the first game of the doubleheader, 6-5, and then dropping the series finale, 12-4.

GAME ONE

  • Fairfield extended its lead to 6-0 following a three-run home run from Luke Nomura in the sixth inning.

  • Manhattan sparked a sixth-inning surge that included scoring all five of its run in the frame, before ultimately falling short.

  • The sixth-inning offensive outburst was highlighted by a double from Aidan Taclas that scored two, a single from Andreaus Lewis which scored Taclas and later a 2-run RBI single from Tyler Galletti.

GAME TWO

  • Fairfield created eight runs across the first four innings to jump out to an 8-0 lead.

  • In the bottom of the fourth, Andreaus Lewis led off the frame with a solo shot. 

  • After a walk from Trevor Hansen and a double for Dylan Mayer, Guriyandel Salva worked a walk to set up the bases loaded for Hunter Sute, who tallied a two-run single to cut the deficit to 8-3.

  • Manhattan's final run of the day came on an RBI double from Lewis in the seventh inning.


 

STATS AND NOTES 

  • Starting at catcher in both games, Lewis went 6-10 today with three RBIs.

  • Aidan Taclas went 3-9, including registering two RBIs in game one of the doubleheader.

  • In game two, Joey Craska wrapped up the outing by pitching three scoreless innings.

  • Manhattan now sits at 2-4 in MAAC play.

NEXT UP 

Manhattan (7-11, 2-4 MAAC) will head up to Connecticut next weekend for a three-game series at Sacred Heart (8-8, 3-2 MAAC). First pitch is Friday at 3 PM at Veterans Park in Fairfield, and is followed by a 1 PM start on Saturday and Sunday.
